📝 Liberty Park Playground Review

We visit Liberty Park often when we’re in Cerritos visiting family (usually twice a week), so we’ve played here literally dozens of times. It’s one of our favorite parks. The playground near the community center is our go-to. It’s easy to access and has just the right mix of ramps, slides, bridges, and little climbers to keep our 2- and 4-year-olds entertained.

We even hosted our daughter’s birthday here once in the picnic shelter, and it worked out perfectly, as kids entertain themselves at the playground. Bryan and I also used to come here regularly for tennis—just one of the many reasons we love this park.

What stands out most is the overall energy: people running the track, walking dogs, playing pickleball or tennis or volleyball, and kids everywhere on the play structures. It’s active, communal, and always feels welcoming.

The wide-open layout, bridges and ramps, and walking track give it a sense of space without being overwhelming. The playground has partial shade from umbrellas, but the ramps and swings are mostly exposed, so it can get hot in the afternoon. Still, we love coming here—it’s a great all-ages park with an upbeat, local vibe.

🎠 Playground Features

  • Separate play structures for little kids and big kids
  • Open slides
  • Climbers and ladders
  • Climbing wall with rock holds
  • Toddler bucket swings + kid belt swings
  • Wall with rock holds
  • Bridges and ramps
  • Monkey bars
  • Stepping stones

🧱 Ground Surface

The entire playground area has rubber flooring, which is great for cushioning falls and makes it easier for toddlers to walk or run around.

👶 Toddler-Friendly?

Yes. The little-kid structure has smaller slides and a cozy playhouse-style bench. Both our 2- and 4-year-olds comfortably explore both the toddler and big-kid structures using the ramps, bridges, and stepping stones.

🚧 Enclosed / Fenced In?

Open. Not fenced off, but spacious enough that it’s hard for a toddler to reach the parking lot without you noticing.

🚻 Bathrooms

Bathrooms are available inside and outside the Liberty Park Community Center. The bathrooms inside the Community Center are nicer.

☀️ Shade

  • Partial shade over the playground (structures partially shaded)
  • Many picnic tables covered (but those are farther from the playground)
  • On warmer days, the open play area can get hot — early morning or late afternoon visits work best

🧺 Picnic Tables

Yes, covered picnic shelters with barbecues are available a little bit past the track. It’s too far to sit there and watch your kids though, so best to eat here before or after playing.

🚗 Parking

Multiple free parking lots (by community center, track, sports fields) + street parking near tennis courts.

🧃 Other Amenities

  • Jogging track (330 yards = 1 lap)
  • Disc golf course
  • Adult exercise stations
  • Volleyball courts on sand inside of the track
  • Pickleball courts (inside of the track and some dual courts on the tennis courts)
  • Tennis courts
  • Softball diamond (night‑lighted)
  • Community center nearby

🧠 Tips for Visiting with Kids

  • Bring water and snacks
  • Bring sunblock and sun hats (Though there is some shade, it still feels pretty hot and sunny in the afternoons)
  • Go early morning or later afternoon to avoid heat in the exposed play areas
