📝 Larwin Park Playground Review

I visited Larwin Park on a sunny afternoon when I needed shade and it didn’t disappoint. The play area for ages 2‑5 is extensive and fully shaded, which is a major win in Southern California heat. I went around 1pm on a weekday (hottest time of the day), and it was still comfortable because of the shade. My 2-year old son was off exploring the net climbers, stepping stones, slides and sandbox for a long time—all without me urging him on.

The layout is thoughtful: a toddler section plus a big‑kid section makes it easy to include siblings of different ages. There’s even a sandbox, which you don’t see as often in playgrounds for little ones. The open grassy field around the playground gives everyone space to run, and the covered picnic shelter means we had a shady spot to snack.

One thing to keep in mind: the free parking lot is small, so on weekends it may fill up. That said, we will absolutely visit again—it’s become one of our go‑to toddler‑friendly parks with the bonus of something for older kids too.

Fun fact: Larwin Park was named after the home builder who donated the land.

🎠 Playground Features

  • Separate toddler & big kid structures (2-5 and 5-12)
  • Sandbox
  • Open slides
  • Rock‑climbing wall
  • Stepping stones
  • Monkey bars
  • Toddler bucket swings & kid belt swings
  • Multi‑user swings
  • Sit‑and‑spin
  • Sensory panels
  • Net climbers

🧱 Ground Surface

The entire playground area has rubber flooring, which is great for cushioning falls and makes it easier for toddlers to walk or run around.

👶 Toddler-Friendly?

Yes! There’s a dedicated 2‑5 age‑play structure with slides, net climbers and a sandbox. My toddler played here happily. Usually he wants to go to the big kid structure, but there was so much for little kids to do here that he didn’t even go to the big kid side.

🚧 Enclosed / Fenced In?

Open. Not fenced off, but spacious enough that it’s hard for a toddler to reach the parking lot without you noticing.
