📝 Huntington Beach Central Park West Playground Review

This is one of the biggest and most exciting playgrounds we’ve been to! The layout is super wide and spacious, with multiple play zones that include net bridges, rope tunnels, ziplines, seesaws, and swings for all ages.

If you’re standing in the parking lot and looking at the playground, the right side of the playground is better for toddlers, and the left side is more suited for older kids. My kids love the slides, tandem swings, seesaws, and the smaller net climbers — while I love that I can actually see most of the play area clearly.

The park is right next to a lake, and there’s even a restaurant (Kathy May’s) that shares the same lot. It’s a huge win for families looking to make a day of it.

🎠 Playground Features

  • Separate toddler & big kid structures
  • Open slides
  • Lots of net climbers
  • Rope tunnels & rope ladders
  • Toddler bucket swings
  • Kid belt swings
  • Expression tandem swing
  • Multi-user swing
  • See saw
  • Ziplines
  • Monkey bars
  • Musical instruments
  • Sensory panels

🧱 Ground Surface

The entire playground area has rubber flooring, which is great for cushioning falls and makes it easier for toddlers to walk or run around.

👶 Toddler-Friendly?

Yes. There are smaller play structures, slides, net climbers, toddler bucket swings, and tandem swings. My 2-year old and 4-year old had a blast here.

🚧 Enclosed / Fenced In?

Open. Not fenced off, but spacious enough that it’s hard for a toddler to reach the parking lot without you noticing.

🚻 Bathrooms

Bathrooms are located just across the parking lot near the softball field—easy to get to if someone needs a quick break.

☀️ Shade

  • No shade over playground structures
  • Some trees nearby offer shade to sit under (bring a picnic blanket)
  • Visit in the morning or late afternoon for cooler temps

🧺 Picnic Tables

No picnic tables directly in the playground area

🚗 Parking

There’s a free parking lot with plenty of spaces right next to the playground.

🧃 Other Amenities

  • Shipley Nature Center across the street (It’s a big street though, so you should probably drive. We did this before going to the playground.)
  • Lake view
  • 4 playgrounds within Huntington Beach Central Park, though this one, Huntington Beach Central Park West playground is the biggest, so go here
  • Open grassy field
  • Nature center, fishing, disc golf, dog park, equestrian trails, fitness course also inside of Huntington Beach Central Park (clearly this park is huge!)
  • Senior Center and Central Library nearby

🧠 Tips for Visiting with Kids

  • Bring water and snacks
  • Bring a picnic blanket to sit on the grass
